PCMR, Deer Valley fire up snowmaking guns

Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort fired up the snowmaking guns this week, taking advantage of the coldest weather of the season so far to start putting down a base.

A spokesperson for PCMR said snowmaking started on Tuesday night. The snowmaking guns are operating on the following runs:

  • Homerun, from the top of the Payday run to the bottom of the First Time run
  • Payday
  • Quick Silver
  • Three Kings
  • Pick ‘N Shovel

    PCMR is set to open for the ski season Nov. 19.

    Deer Valley, meanwhile, started its snowmaking on Wednesday. Chuck English, the director of mountain operations, said snowmaking is targeting the following runs:

  • Bird’s Eye
  • the terrain outside the Silver Lake Lodge
  • Silver Link
  • Success
  • Rosebud
  • Wide West

    Deer Valley is scheduled to open for the ski season on Dec. 3.

    A spokesperson for Canyons said the resort anticipates starting its snowmaking operations on or shortly after Nov. 1, weather permitting. Canyons hopes to open Nov. 25.
