PCMR, The Canyons postpone opening day

Kristina Eastham, Of the Record staff

Both Park City Mountain Resort and The Canyons Resort decided Tuesday to postpone their opening days until next Wednesday, Nov. 21 due to the lack of snowfall and cold enough temperatures for snowmaking. The resorts were scheduled to open this Friday and Saturday, respectively.

While PCMR and The Canyons hoped the snow forecasted for last Sunday would deliver, it arrived as rain instead. The National Weather Service predicts a chance of snow on Friday and a slight chance of snow over the weekend.

"In the forecast for this weekend, it is calling for some colder temperatures and for some snow, so we’re really hopeful," said Paula Fabel, the communications manager for PCMR.

PCMR is hoping for enough snow to open both the Payday lift and the First Time lift. Fabel recommends that guests continually check the resort’s website at parkcitymountain.com for more up-to-date information.

According to The Canyons’ website, their opening day has also been postponed until next Wednesday, conditions permitting. Updated information will be available online at thecanyons.com

White Pine Touring’s opening date remains uncertain and also depends on snowfall. However, the retail location will be open for business and season pass holders can have their photos taken starting Monday, Nov. 19.
