Police Blotter

Person sees a mountain lion or a really big house cat, the police say

The Park City Police Department received a complaint about an animal in Park Meadows that a witness said could have been a small mountain lion or an "extremely large house cat," according to police logs.

The animal was seen at the Lucky John Drive-Little Kate Road intersection. It went into the nearby brush, the police were told. It appeared to be prowling, police logs indicated.

The Police Department received the report at 6:36 p.m., but the sighting was at noon.

It was not clear from police logs whether the authorities determined what sort of animal it was. There have been occasional sightings of predators, including mountain lions and coyotes, in the Park City area.

Earlier this year, there were reports of a string of unexplained pet disappearances in Park Meadows. At the time, there were concerns a predator might have preyed on them.
