The Park City Police Department says someone reported a man spraying a dog with pepper spray on Wednesday, July 18, an episode that, if it occurred, is a rare local instance of such an encounter.
The police say they have little information about the case, though, and do not provide a description of the suspect. Lt. Phil Kirk says police reports do not indicate what prompted the person to spray the dog.
The case was reported at 9:49 p.m. near the skateboard park at City Park. The suspect was gone by the time police officers arrived.
The encounter comes as Park City continues to consider building a dog park, perhaps at Quinn’s Junction. Dogs are frequently seen off their leashes in most Park City neighborhoods and at places like City Park.
The police receive many dog-related complaints but people typically do not use pepper spray on them.
