Rendezvous Rye Whiskey back on shelves
Both inside and out of the High West Distillery, the Rendezvous Rye Whiskey is a popular pick among locals looking for a stiff drink. But following Christmas and Sundance, the biggest sales period for the brand, it was hard to come by the aged whiskey in the local liquor stores.
"Rendezvous, because it’s an older whiskey, is not something we can make on the fly," said High West owner David Perkins. "We have to wait for it to age."
The shortage in stores is coming to a close, with liquor stores starting to receive more shipments after the most recent batch was sent out in late February.
"A lot of stores who ordered it received the most recent shipment this past week," said Rob Southworth, the merchandising manager for the Utah Department of Alcohol Beverage Control.
Southworth said both the Park City Main Street and Kimball Junction locations recently received shipments, but customers are snatching the Rendezvous Rye Whiskey as soon as it hits shelves with the Kimball Junction location already sold out.
"Everything they have is pretty popular," he added.
Perkins said the delay was simply a matter of when the shipments went out and how fast shelves were restocked.
"It just takes time to get the product from one place to another," he said. "In the meantime, if customers didn’t see it for a month, that explains how it could sell out so fast."
"There’s plenty of Rendezvous Rye now. I foresee that we’ll have plenty for the next two years."
Rendezvous Rye is available for sale at the High West Distillery located at 703 Park Avenue. For more information call (435) 649-8300.
