Sale of The Canyons still not inked

Talisker Corp. spokesman Mark Thorne is starting to sound like a scratched record.

"The closing transaction for The Canyons has been extended one more week until next Friday and we are very optimistic that we will make the closing at this time," Thorne said in a telephone interview Friday.

Park City-based American Skiing Company, the parent company to The Canyons, announced last July that it was selling the resort to the Toronto-based Talisker development firm for $100 million.

Friday, the Talisker Canyons Finance Company missed its third deadline to close the deal, which was again extended, this time to June 27. Talisker initially agreed to finalize the transaction before the end of 2007.

Talisker could lose a deposit worth more than $12 million if the resort sale is not inked, according to Securities and Exchange Commission documents.

Talisker Corp. chief Jack Bistricer declined to comment about the sale when reached Friday.

"I’m sure once this deal closes, we’ll have lots to talk about," Bistricer said.

Currently, Talisker is tied up in court with Colorado-based Vail Resorts Inc., which blames the developer for helping scuttle a deal Vail had to buy The Canyons last year. Vail has offered ASC more than $110 million for The Canyons.

A motions hearing scheduled in that case Friday in Denver District Court was cancelled.
