Walk with morning birds

A bird walk will be held on the Swaner Nature Preserve today from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The walk will be led by Bill Fenimore, a local birding expert and owner of the Layton Wild Bird Center. He will present the birding basics at the Spotted Frog Bookstore and Café in Kimball Junction. Binoculars, field guides and bird checklists are encouraged, but not required. Call the Swaner Nature Preserve office at 649-1767 to register. The walk is free and open to the public.

Galleries join artists’ gala

The First Annual Artists’ Gala is tonight, Saturday, June 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. The event will be held in Salt Lake Utah Symphony Opera Studios and is a collaborative effort with 30 artists and five Park City Galleries, including Terzian Galleries, Julie Nester Gallery, Phoenix Gallery, Coda Gallery and the Paisley Pomegranate. The event will feature music, a light buffet, awards and door prizes. The cost is $15 at the door. All proceeds will benefit Art Access, Utah’s nonprofit for artists with disabilities. Bookclub to discuss ‘Forgotten Kingdom’

June 12, the Park City History Book Club will discuss "Forgotten Kingdom: The Mormon Theocracy in the American West." The discussion will be held at 4 p.m. at the Park City Library. Jane Stone will lead the discussion of David Bigler’s book, which covers the fifty year period after the Mormon pioneers arrived in Utah, before Utah became a state.
