Search for a new Superintendent is underway

Dale Thompson, Of the Record staff

With former Superintendent Dave Adamson officially retired, the Park City School District has started seeking a new chief.

The deadline for applications was July 31, and Director of Human Resources Tim McConnell reported there are 20 hopefuls.

"It was a pleasant surprise we got so many applicants," McConnell said.

The next step is to narrow the field. Many of the candidates are from out of state, he said. Five Utahns submitted their resumes.

"Essentially what we’re trying to do now is narrow the field," McConnell said.

The first step is to make phone calls, checking the references of the applicants.

"We hope to be down to a list of finalists based on phone interviews," McConnell said.

Among other things, he said, the district is looking for candidates with prior administrative experience.

"This is one of the outstanding school districts in the country and we’re looking for somebody that has the wherewithal to take the reins," he said.

After the finalists are chosen an interview committee will be formed with representation from interested parties including the school board, teachers, the Park City Education Foundation and district officials.

McConnell said the amount of time it will take to hire a new superintendent will be based on the number of finalists they have to interview.
