See Lukas Nelson at the Eccles Center

Submitted by the Park City Performing Arts Foundation The rising stars of a new generation of peace-loving musicians, Lukas Nelson and his band, Promise of the Real, shake things up at The Eccles Center on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Nelson’s performance is the first of two Discovery Series shows presented by Park City Performing Arts Foundation at the Eccles Center this season. The series introduces up-and-coming acts at a crowd-pleasing price reserved seating tickets are $30 (rows A thru J), and general admission tickets are $15. PCPAF’s December 12 performance featuring Vienna Teng with Alex Wong is the second show in this new series.

The 20 year-old Nelson, his brother Micah and their three band-mates draw on ’60s-era passion as well as its musical icons, but these talented lads have an electric rockin’ sound and message that is completely their own. From jazz to hard rock with Hendrix licks, Afro-Cuban beats and a hint of legendary dad’s folk-country style thrown in Lukas Nelson and The Promise of the Real is a melting pot of sound.

On stage, Lukas leads on vocals and guitar with Anthony LoGerfo on drums, Tato Melgar on percussion, JP Maramba on bass and Micah serving as drummer and interpretive artist (with a flair for psychedelia). The fresh, energetic quintet has hit the touring circuit with gusto and, given the fact that Lukas and Micah have been touring and performing with their father for years a seasoned professionalism. The band’s five-song "highly acclaimed" (Redwood Times) EP has put them on the map with blues-rock tunes that blend iconic influences ranging from Bob Dylan and Stevie Ray Vaughan to Neil Young and even the BoDeans.

Lukas Nelson and his crew recently opened for B.B. King and, according to a Grand Rapids Press review, "Lukas Nelson squeezed out some sparks of his own on guitar, drawing an enthusiastic standing ovation from the crowd, which appreciated the animated blues-rock he delivered with his band, The Promise of the Real."

"Don’t expect a young version of their father," says Park City Performing Arts Foundation executive director Teri Orr. "Lukas and Micah share his artistic gift and their fellow band members are similarly talented but they are forging their own, extraordinary path and style. We’re lucky to catch this band on the rise."

Groovy, in a new millennium sort of way, Lukas Nelson and The Promise of the Real perform in Park City for one night only.
