Snowmobiler found safe in Uintas

A woman from Evanston, Wyo., was rescued near Coalville early Sunday morning after she became lost while snowmobiling near Chalk Creek.

Volunteer searchers located Jennifer Gruber, 38, around 2 a.m. after she had been missing for several hours. Her boyfriend contacted the Summit County Sheriff’s Office at 10:15 p.m. after the pair became separated while snowmobiling near Rigby Dugway, east of Coalville.

Roughly 12 searchers with snowmobiles looked for the woman until she was spotted from a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter. She was reportedly treated and released in good condition from a Wyoming hospital.

Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds called the operation a "typical search."

"She was very fortunate," the sheriff said. — Patrick Parkinson
