Specialized bike stolen in Park City, but a Mongoose left for victim
The Park City Police Department received a report of an unusual case of a suspected bicycle theft that involved the disappearance of one bicycle and the appearance of another one at the same location.
The case was logged on Aug. 23 on Lucky John Drive, a heavily populated residential street in Park Meadows. Phil Kirk, a police captain, said one bicycle was taken while the victim was on vacation. The person who took the bicycle left another bicycle in the same location, the police said.
Kirk said a mountain bike manufactured by Specialized was taken. The bicycle that was left is a Mongoose, he said. Kirk said the Mongoose is a children’s model, describing that the front brakes were missing from the bicycle that was left. Kirk said the Specialized bicycle was not locked.
The Police Department did not immediately have precise dollar figures for the values of the two bicycles. Specialized, though, is typically seen as a higher end brand than Mongoose.
“The replacement bike is of much lesser value,” Kirk acknowledged.
