Tour des Suds
The 32nd annual Tour des Suds mountain-bike hill climb is scheduled to return to Park City Sunday, Sept. 16. This event is a seven-mile mountain-bike climb from City Park to the top of Guardsman Pass with a 2,700-foot elevation gain. Participants are urged to don festive costumes and celebrate the beginning of the fall mountain-bike season in a spirited manner. Hilary Hays had a hole-in-one on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway. Hays made her shot on the No. 3 hole of the silver course from 110 yards out using a pitching wedge. The witness to the shot was Chris Hays.
Jog for Jill
On Oct. 20, 2012, Jill’s Legacy, the young advisory board to the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation ‘Out to Beat Lung Cancer BIG Time,’ will hold a 5K walk/run event on the University of Utah campus. Participants will join together in order to show their support in the fight against lung cancer, a very serious and forgotten disease. Registration fees of $15-30 will go directly to funding lung cancer research. First Park City XC Trail Half Marathon
On Saturday, October 6, the Park City High School cross-country teams is scheduled to host its first Park City XC half trail marathon. The course will wow runners with amazing views, fall colors, great trails, and a gentle, four-mile downhill descent to the finish. The race begins at The Montage at Deer Valley Resort and finishes at Park City Mountain Resort near the First Time Lift. The race is 12.6 miles on single track trails along the mountains. Dog Obedience Classes
Park City Recreation begins another session of Dog Obedience classes Tuesday, October 2. Puppy and basic level classes are offered to fit the need of your dog. The Power of Poles Trekking/Hiking Workshop
This on-trail workshop is on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at the top of Iron Canyon Court, where the Iron Canyon trailhead starts. The "Power of Poles" workshop is to teach hikers how to use trekking poles. Participants will learn to transform their hiking form while strengthening core muscles, expand hikes to include more challenging terrain, and learn the best stretches to do after hiking. Hikers of all abilities and experience levels are welcome. Correct use of trekking poles can eliminate knee pain, tight quads or hamstrings, and lower back pain while making the hiking experience more enjoyable, safe and gentler on the body. Park City Recreation is ready to hit it up with its coed volleyball league. Team registration ends Sept. 26. Shake Obesity ABC 4 Walkathon at Newpark
September is National Childhood Obesity Month. In an effort to bring awareness to Utah’s obesity epidemic, the first annual Shake Obesity ABC 4 Walkathon is scheduled to be held at Newpark Town Center on Saturday, Sept. 15. Admission is free. Participants can register online or at the event. At the event, registration will begin at 11 a.m. at the Newpark Best Buy, and the walk will start at 12:30 p.m. The first 100 to register will receive gift bags. Basin Recreation Adult Flag Football
Basin Recreation adult flag football is scheduled to start Sept. 30 and finish Dec. 7. Games will be held at the Fieldhouse on Sundays between 5 and 9 p.m. Playoffs and a tournament will be included. Games will be played in a 5-vs-5 format. The cost is $400 per team and the league is limited to 10 teams. Small-and-tall parent and preschooler skate classes
Learn to skate with your child and learn the basic skating skills with an emphasis on safety during a six-week session of 30-minute classes. Classes meet Tuesdays from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. or Wednesdays from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Class fees include skate rental, class time, and practice time for one adult and one child. Want a great way to get into shape and have a great time doing it? PCHS boys’ golf fundraising auction
The Park City High School boys’ golf team is hosting a fundraising auction. The auction started on Aug. 25 and is scheduled to run until Sept. 16 at noon. This is a golf-lover’s fundraiser. The auction has rounds of golf at Glenwild, Park City, Park Meadows, Promontory Dye Course, Soldier Hollow, Jeremy Ranch, Tuhaye, and Victory Ranch. Fall youth tennis at the PC MARC is open for registration. Programs are taught by USPTA certified tennis professionals. Seventh annual Board of Realtors Charity Golf Tournament
The seventh annual charity golf tournament presented by the Park City Board of Realtors Philanthropic Foundation and Affiliate Members will be held at Red Ledges on Monday, Sept. 17. The tournament will include an 18-hole scramble, lunch, gift bag, contests, silent auction, and fun. All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Justice Centers in Summit and Wasatch counties.
