Curling Bonspiel hits Park City

The first-ever Curling Bonspiel the name for a curling tournament is coming to the Park City Ice Arena on May 1-2. Twenty teams will come from places such as Canada, Texas, Wyoming, Colorado and Idaho. Viewers can give curling a try for just $10 and play after the championship draw on Sunday (May 2). The first draw was Friday night at 5 p.m., with the second at 8 p.m. An opening ceremony will get things under way at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Ice Breaker 4-Man Scramble

The Park City Golf Club is hosting a four-man scramble tournament starting on Sunday, May 2, with registration opening at 8:30 a.m. The shotgun start will begin at 9:30 a.m., with a special blind draw for teams. Registration is not available before signup.

Men’s fly-fishing clinic

High Country Fly Fishers, a Park City-based fly-fishing club, will team with Troutbum2 to conduct an annual men’s fly-fishing clinic on May 5, 6 and 8. The three-day clinic includes evening classroom instruction at St. Mary’s Parish Hall, casting instruction at Deer Valley Ponds and on-stream fishing on Saturday, May 8. Sauer to visit jiu-jitsu club

Silver Mountain Runners Workshop

The Silver Mountain Sports Club is offering a three-hour runners clinic on Saturday, May 8th from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Kimball Junction Location. The clinic utilizes the Feldenkrais Method and is presented by Sharon Starika, who will help you achieve a faster pace and better biomechanics while eliminating any cramping and/or muscle fatigue. PCHS to host Memorial Day 5K

The National Honor Society will host its first-ever Memorial Day 5K on May 31 in memory of five PCHS graduates who died within seven months of each other in 2008 (go to parkcity5.com for more details on that story). The 5K will be accompanied by a memory wall and memory tables for anyone who would like to display a photograph, poem, candle or memento. A durable banner with a photograph of the lost loved ones can be purchased at contactus@pchsmemorial.com. The race will begin at 9 a.m., with same-day registration and T-shirt pickup starting at 8 a.m. The course begins at Dozier Field and winds through Park Meadows. Race registration can be submitted at pchsmemorial.com for $25 or $30 the day of the race. All proceeds go to the PCHS National Honor Society.

4th annual UOP hill climb

The Utah Olympic Park is hosting its fourth annual Olympic Hill Climb to benefit the youth of the Park City Nordic Ski Club on Saturday, May 29. Olympic gold and silver medalist Billy Demong and silver medalist Brett Camerota will compete in the walk, run or crawl up the Olympic Park Road in your choice of a 2.5 or 5 kilometer course (400 or 1,000 feet of vertical). Entry includes zip-line ride, live music, swag bag and prizes. Register early at http://www.pcnordicskiclub.com. Cost is $20 for ages 17 and younger, $25 for adults. Coed summer nights volleyball

The City Summer Nights volleyball league will play coed matches four vs. four using rally scoring. Starting June 1, games will be played on Tuesday evenings at City Park. Basketball camp

On June 7-10, HSBCAMPS will hit the courts of Park City High School to lead four-day morning clinics and day camps geared towards teaching and developing the fundamentals of basketball for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through 12. There will be a morning clinic for grades K-3 from 8 to 9:50 a.m. The cost to attend is $99. The day camp for grades 4-12 will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $250. From group drills and individual contests, to team competitions and guest lectures, players will participate in instructional work with the HSBCAMPS staff, comprised of collegiate and professional coaches and players. Every participant will receive a camp T-shirt, as well as other prizes provided by sponsors. Availability is limited.
