student singers warm audience up for the holidays

On Dec. 13, parents, family and friends packed the McPolin music room , vying for any viewable spot to snap still photos and video footage to accompany the roughly 70 third-grade students singing holiday songs.

Third-grade teacher Tori Carson said she worked with the students for one month, preparing them for this choral celebration of the holidays. Students sang a selection of Hanukah, Mexican Pasadas, and Christmas music. The program lasted 30 minutes.

"The kids are so excited," Carson said.

When asked how she was able to get them to sing so well and with such animation, she said, "lots of practice."

"We sing all the time in my class," Carson said. She was not surprised the music room filled to standing room only. "We have great support from our parents."

The students ended with a song they dedicated to Carson and all the work she put into preparing them for the event.

"These are the special memories, the things like this," said Carson. With her rehearsal work done through the holidays, she said, "it’s autopilot from here on out."
