Summit County Library Bookmobile travels the county

The Summit County Library Bookmobile partnered with Holy Cross Ministry’s summer camp on July 8 at McPolin Elementary School. Lee Whiting, Outreach Services Librarian for the Summit County Library, said he’s been visiting schools since March. According to Whiting, the Bookmobile is designed to promote literacy and access to books for all ages. Whiting also visits senior centers and homes where people have mobility issues.

"Our goal is to get books into people’s hands and to encourage reading," he said. His favorite part about the Bookmobile is watching the kids make progress and get excited about reading. Whiting also said it’s important to read at home at an early age. Whiting’s philosophy is to get kids involved in what they love and are interested in. "Because of kids’ quest for knowledge, they understand they need to read," he said.
