According to the Summit County Attorney's Office, the following cases were heard on Monday, Aug. 22, in Third District Court at the Summit County Justice Center:

Sabreen Safiyyah Al-Hameed, 24, of Los Angeles, entered a guilty plea to possession or use of drug paraphernalia, a Class B misdemeanor, and intoxication, a Class C misdemeanor. The court imposed a six-month jail sentence and a $500 fine for possession or use of drug paraphernalia and imposed a 90-day jail sentence and a $500 fine for intoxication. Those sentences were stayed and the court placed the defendant on court probation for 12 months, ordered the defendant to pay a $500 fine and complete other standard terms and conditions.

Michael D. Berkebill, 30, of Watsonville, California, entered a guilty plea to attempted possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a Class A misdemeanor. The court imposed a one-year jail sentence. That sentence was stayed and the court placed the defendant on court probation for 12 months, ordered him to pay a $2,500 fine and complete other standard terms and conditions.

Jack Otto Carlstrom, 19, of Salt Lake City, entered into a 12 month plea in abeyance to theft, a Class A misdemeanor. The court ordered the defendant to pay $525 in restitution, complete 40 hours of community service and other standard terms and conditions.

Joshua J. Marsden, 31, of Watsonville, California, entered a guilty plea to attempted possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a Class A misdemeanor. The court imposed a one-year jail sentence. That sentence was stayed and the court placed the defendant on court probation for 12 months, ordered him to pay a $2,500 fine and complete other standard terms and conditions.

Brian A. McPherson, 53, of Lafayette, Indiana, entered a guilty plea to attempted possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a Class A misdemeanor. The court imposed a one-year jail sentence. That sentence was stayed and the court placed the defendant on court probation for 18 months, ordered him to pay a $2,500 fine and complete other standard terms and conditions.

Micah D. Sharp, 43, of Blacklick, California, entered into a six-month plea in abeyance to attempted possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a Class A misdemeanor. The court ordered the defendant to pay a fee of $1,850 and complete other standard terms and conditions.

Nathan Richard Arnold, 20, of Midway, entered into a 24-month plea in abeyance to unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony. The court ordered the defendant to serve 44 days in jail (20 days consecutively and the remaining 24 over weekends), pay restitution of $500, complete 100 hours of community service and complete other standard terms and conditions.
