Health Department hires news public information officer
The Summit County Health Department has hired North Summit High School alum Derek Siddoway to become the department’s new public information officer.
Siddoway replaces Katie Mullaly, who held the position with the Health Department for 14 years. Mullaly left her position in May.
“I’m trying to fill some big shoes that Katie had and I’m looking forward to picking up where she left off, but also to expanding on some things and creating that dialogue and conversation with the community,” Siddoway said.
As the public information officer, Siddoway will be responsible for engaging the community through events and social media outlets. If a public health emergency occurs, Siddoway would be the person delivering the information to the community.
Rich Bullough, director of the Health Department, said in a press release Siddoway “knows our communities and our residents.”
“We are certain he will help us better connect our department to our citizenry, and help us assure our residents and visitors fully benefit from the excellent services and programs we provide,” the release read.
Siddoway worked as a part-time employee with the Summit County Weed Department before he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah in 2013. He still serves as a volunteer with Summit County Search and Rescue.
“I think it is a good opportunity to be here working in Summit County. The demographic between the East Side and the West Side, and working with Park City and the tourism community that comes in with Sundance and things like that,” Siddoway said. “The biggest thing about my job is engaging and working with the public to let them know what we have going on.
“When people think of the Health Department, you think you can come in and get your flu shot, but there are so many other things that we offer,” he said.
