Jeremy Ranch fire extinguished
A "spotty" fire west of the Jeremy Ranch exit next to Interstate 80 was extinguished by representatives of multiple agencies Wednesday afternoon, said Park City Fire District Chief Paul Hewitt.
The fire, which burned about a quarter of an acre, was noticed first by a deputy of the Summit County Sheriff’s Department. He was able to respond with a handheld extinguisher until Summit County Fire Warden Bryce Boyer, who was also in the area, came to spray the fire with water from his truck.
the time the Park City Fire Department responded, the fire was pretty much contained, Hewitt said.
While the cause of the fire was undetermined, Hewitt speculated that because there were several ignition points, a dragged rim or trailer by a passing vehicle probably produced a shower of sparks.
Hewitt said the fire was evidence of how easily a fire can start in the area this time of year, which has seen little precipitation and is "bone-dry." He added, "Even though it looks green and lush, there is dry fuel inside."
