The current Mountain Horse Medical Small Animal Clinic in Silver Creek could add of both an equine surgery center and a dog and cat boarding house. The Snyderville Basin Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing to possibly approve the addition of the boarding house.

The new owner of the building, Dr. Carl Prior of the Park City Animal Clinic, wants to utilize the existing veterinary clinic while also adding the dog and cat boarding house, which requires a low-impact permit from the county.

Because the previous owner of the property received a rezone and a conditional use permit to build a horse hospital in 2005, that use is already approved by the county regardless of the property owner, according to Summit County planner Jennifer Strader.

Strader said the site includes two buildings, which together total roughly 10,000 square feet. If the pet boarding house is approved, it could house 60 animals at one time.

Dr. Prior said he would bring in Dr. Sam Hendrix, an equine veterinarian, to the equine surgery center. Hendrix completed a three-year residency at Colorado State University specializing in equine surgery and lameness.

The Snyderville Basin Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on granting a low impact permit for the dog and cat boarding facility on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Sheldon Richins Building, 1885 W. Ute Boulevard. For more information, visit summitcounty.org.
