Recycle Utah awards local recyclers
Recycle Utah recognized several Summit County residents and businesses for their recycling efforts, holding an annual awards evening at the Treasure Mountain Inn on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
More than 60 supporters attended the event to award six recipients. The trophies for this year’s awards evening were created by Marianne Cone, Sally Elliott, Katharine Scott and Kathleen Briley, according to a Recycle Utah release. The awards were created using materials from Recycle Utah’s Warehouse.
The awards were grouped into four categories for Recycler of the Year: an individual, a business, a county and city employee and a local educator. They included:
Individual Recycler Bruce Erickson: Helps with Recycle Utah’s monthly "Dumpster Days" and the twice-annual hazardous materials collection. Also serves on Recycle Utah’s board.
Business Recycler Kim and Heber Steed: Recognized for work in making Harvest Fest happen the last four years, which takes place at High Star Ranch in Kamas.
County Employee Jaren Scott, Landfill Superintendent: Recognized for improving local landfills, making "Dumpster Days" happen and allowing residential green waste recycling.
City Employee Mayor Dana Williams: Recognized as Park City Municipal’s collaborator with Recycle Utah with programs such as water conservation, Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program and reducing the use of plastic bags.
Local Educator Recycler Annie Wallace, Ecker Hill Middle School French and history teacher: Wallace brings in Recycle Utah educators to her classroom monthly to teach kids about composting, recycling and why not to use plastic bags.
Recycle Utah Employee Victor Acosta was also recognized as the employee of the year for "strength and big heart" and "commitment to order and hard work."
