Summit County Sheriff’s deputies discovered more than 16 pounds of marijuana and seven grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop in eastern Summit County over the weekend.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, three individuals were arrested on felony possession charges of a controlled substance: a 20-year-old male from Missouri; a 22-year-old male from Colorado; and a 22-year-old female from Colorado.
Sunday at 2:17 p.m., deputies stopped the suspects’ vehicle as it was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 near mile marker 154 for having a broken taillight.
During the stop, the suspects gave different stories about their travel plans, the call logs state. Deputies deployed a K9 officer who found the marijuana, seven grams of a drug suspected to be methamphetamine, and one tablet of a drug suspected to be LSD. Deputies also discovered $525 in cash in the vehicle.
The suspects were arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to numerous other calls between Monday, Oct. 5, and Monday, Oct. 12, including the following:
Monday, Oct. 12
Deputies responded to a verbal argument at a South Summit residence. A man and a woman were separated for the night.
A Utah Highway Patrol trooper witnessed a man pushing a shopping cart holding a blown car tire on a Basin-area road. The man had several active warrants and was transported to the Summit County Jail. Another person waiting at the man’s car was also arrested for active warrants.
Deputies stopped a vehicle on State Road 32 for a broken windshield and discovered the driver had been drinking. He was transported to the Summit County Jail.
Sunday, Oct. 11
Two unknown men in a blue minivan stole 12 used automobile batteries from a Kimball Junction-area business worth approximately $150 and caused $1,600 in damages to a chain-link fence.
Dispatch received a report of a potentially suicidal male at a Kimball Junction-area hotel.
Saturday, Oct. 10
A South Summit woman reported an individual as missing.
A verbal altercation occurred between two people in a car on a Basin-area road. The parties were separated. No citations were issued.
Deputies responded to a South Summit home after dispatch received a report about a domestic violence incident. The case will be screened through the county attorney’s office.
Dispatch received a report about a lost rifle. The man left it by his vehicle while in the mountains, but drove away without it. When he returned, it was gone.
A Specialized Rockhopper and a Top Fuel mountain bike were stolen from the garage of a Basin-area home.
Four mountain bikes were stolen in two separate incidents at a Kimball Junction-area hotel.
Friday, Oct. 9
While responding with Park City police officers to a report of a disorderly group outside a Park City hotel, deputies arrested a woman for intoxication and disorderly conduct.
An unspecified amount of money and a credit card were stolen from a South Summit location.
Deputies responded to a welfare check on the Mirror Lake Highway after dispatch received a report of an intoxicated male. He was located and not cited.
Thursday, Oct. 8
A man in a Basin-area neighborhood reported that, while he was out of town, someone broke into his apartment and stole several items. An investigation is ongoing.
Dispatch received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a Basin-area neighborhood. Deputies discovered the driver passed out in the driver’s seat and he was arrested for driving under the influence.
Wednesday, Oct. 7
Deputies stopped a car for speeding on State Road 248 and the driver was arrested for several active warrants out of Salt Lake City Justice Court.
Deputies stopped a car for improper lane travel and a turn-signal violation. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence.
Someone stole pallets of plywood from a Basin-area home. An investigation is ongoing.
Tuesday, Oct. 6
A woman was arrested at a Basin-area home for slapping another woman.
A swing set was stolen from a North Summit home.
Monday, Oct. 5
A car slammed into the back of another car that was stopped and waiting to turn left on a Basin-area road. The driver of the trailing car was arrested for an active warrant and driving with a suspended license. A woman sustained minor injuries. She was transported to Park City Medical Center and later released.
Meredith Reed was elected to a two-year term as chair of the Summit County Democratic Party and said she sees an opportunity to ride the so-called blue wave that saw a Democratic surge nationally and within the state.
