A 33-year-old Snyderville Basin resident reported nearly $50,000 worth of items were stolen when his backpack was taken from the end of his driveway, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, the man was standing at the end of his driveway in a gated community in the Basin waiting for his Uber driver. The report states he left the backpack on the ground to run back inside his house and when he returned less than 10 minutes later the bag was missing.

The victim reported two Rolex watches worth approximately $47,000 were among the items that were taken. Other items included a MacBook Pro, $2,500 headphones, an iPhone and his passport.

Sgt. Ron Bridge said the case has been turned over to detectives and an investigation is ongoing.

"They are working on it through follow-up and are trying to keep an eye out," Bridge said. "A Rolex, in particular, is very distinctive and they have identifying numbers and etchings within them so they can actually be tracked pretty easily."

The theft would be considered a felony because of the value of the property, Bridge said.

"That was a substantial amount of personal property that was taken from another person," Bridge said.
