Summit County’s close call with the Tollgate Fire

  • All firefighting crews have been released from the East Side fire, which started on Monday.
  • Fortuitous rain showers throughout the week helped prevent the blaze from reaching Interstate 80.
  • The damage was reported to have been contained to about 287 acres. About 400 homes stand in the area, though only a shed suffered heat damage from the fire.
  • Officials are keeping vigilant for future blazes.
