Suspects in Kimball Junction armed bank robbery arrested in Oregon
Oregon authorities on Saturday evening arrested two men suspected of committing several violent crimes across four states, including an armed bank robbery in the Park City area Friday morning.
Summit County Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright said the two men, a 31-year-old from El Salvador and a 30-year-old of New Mexico, are suspected of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank in Kimball Junction on Friday. One of the suspects, authorities say, pulled a firearm on a bank teller demanding money. No one was injured.
Investigators believe the men are associated with crimes across multiple states, including Wyoming, Colorado and Oregon, Wright said. The men are suspects in the fatal shooting of a man in Denver during a carjacking early Friday morning.
“The Summit county Sheriff’s Office is working closely with the FBI, Wyoming, Oregon and Colorado police in relation to this multi-state crime spree,” Wright said.
A woman, who police say was in the vehicle during the armed robbery in Kimball Junction, has also been taken into custody. Her involvement was unkown Sunday afternoon and the details surrounding her arrest were not available, Wright said.
Oregon authorities were called to respond to an attempted carjacking at a Red Robin restaurant in Roseburg, Oregon, Saturday at around 5:30 p.m., according to a release from the Oregon State Police. Officers apprehended the 31-year-old man from El Savador for a fugitive warrant out of Utah after he was left behind at the scene, the release states. The other suspects fled in their original vehicle.
The suspects led law enforcement on a vehicle pursuit, firing several gunshots during the chase at passing vehicles, according to authorities. One bullet struck a commercial vehicle, hitting a car seat and narrowly missing a child, the release states. Another bullet hit a Oregon State Police vehicle.
The suspects attempted to steal another vehicle from a couple in Josephine County, Oregon, the release states. One of the suspects shot a man and assaulted a woman during the attempted carjacking. The shooting victim was critically injured.
Authorities were later able to locate the suspects and take the 30-year-old man into custody on multiple charges.
