Tania Knauer – District 3
June 12, 2012
I have been an involved parent in the PCSD for 10 years. Next year, my son will be a senior and my daughter a 9th grader at TMJH. My family and I have been living in Park Meadows for 10 years. My mother was a teacher for 40 years and president of her teacher’s union, I believe a strong public education system is the foundation of our future.
I have a history of volunteering in the PCSD and other related experience including: School Community Councils, Teacher Assessment Committee, District and Elementary Science Fair organizer, Gifted and Talented Committee, District Re-alignment Committee, PCEF Program Assessment Committee, Utahns for Public Schools, Executive Board, Park Record Spelling Bee, founder and organizer.
I have an MBA and a BS in Finance, and 15 years of program management corporate finance, strategic planning, IT development and process improvement for Fortune 500 and startup companies.
My top priorities:
– 14 of the top 15 college majors needed in our economy for graduating students to find a job and support themselves are science, technology, engineering and math related. We need to assess and fine-tune our K-12 STEM curriculum to assure that PCSD students are college and career ready.
– Three years of multi-million dollar deficiencies is unacceptable. We need a thorough review of our expenses and revenues, and a 3-5 year operating budget. We have to budget for and prioritize new programs before adding them to our overly-full plate.
