Texan selected for high-ranking City Hall position

City Hall has hired an executive from a Texas beach resort to serve as the assistant city manager, selecting him from a field of nearly 200 people who had wanted the position.
Michael Kovacs is the city manager in Port Aransas, Texas, situated on the Gulf Coast close to Corpus Christi, Texas, and the popular beach destination of South Padre Island. He has also worked in the government of a South Carolina beach community.
He starts at City Hall in mid-December.
The selection puts someone with experience in resort-town government in a high-ranking position in City Hall. The local tourism industry and others have long seen beach resorts as being competitors to mountain destinations like Park City.
