The Alpine Loop has reopened

At of 1:15 p.m. the Utah Department of Transportation reported that State Road 92 had reopened after a series of mudslides blocked the route earlier this morning. This morning, the Alpine Loop Road was closed after several mudslides, a result of heavy overnight rains, forced the closure of the scenic route from American Fork to Provo Canyon. The route was closed for several hours near the Timpanogos Visitors Center as well as state Road 144 (Tibble Fork) while crews worked to clear the debris.

Five different slides (most of them minor) partially covered various sections of the roads, with mud up to 7 feet deep in one location. According to UDOT, crews escorted vehicles that were stuck overnight out of the canyon.
