Book Club begins new series

On Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m., The Park City History Book Club starts a series of discussions about books on events that have defined today’s countries with "Lords of the Rim: The Invisible Empire of the Overseas Chinese," by Sterling Seagrave. "Lords of the Rim" describes the influence expatriate Chinese have exerted over the centuries on the affairs of all Asian nations, including China, even during the communist regime. This invisible empire, unofficial, unorganized and uncontrolled, has had as much to do with the course of history and national development in Southeast Asia as the governments themselves. Dr. Ben Field will lead the discussion at the Park City Library at 1255 Park Ave. The public is invited to participate in the discussion to learn what has happened in Southeast Asia since 1100 B.C., whether or not they have had a chance to read the book
