Celebrate Arte Latino

The free Arte Latino celebration event Saturday, March 8, from 6 9 p.m., will include live music by the Salsa Brava Orchestra, a performance by the Flamenco Dancers, Latino food, wine/beer cash bar and free children’s art projects. The event will take place at the Kimball Art Center at 638 Park Ave.

Professors to discuss ‘Salt Lake City to Baghdad’

The University of Utah and Spiro Arts cordially invite the community to attend the Park City Institute, featuring professors Chibli Mallat and Amos Guiora from The University of Utah’s S. J. Quinney College of Law, discussing "Salt Lake City to Baghdad: Unfolding a Silver Lining." The social hour and program is from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 6. Apply for this summer’s Kimball Arts Festival

The Kimball Art Center is accepting applications for the 39th Annual Park City Kimball Arts Festival. This year, the Kimball is utilizing the online application system, Zapplication.

Interested artists can apply online with five digital images of their work and a 50 word artist statement on through March 6, 2008. During past years, approximately 800 artists have applied. A 12-member jury screens the submissions and selects 225 to participate in the festival. Each year the Kimball assembles a new selections committee to jury the art submissions. The jury consists of art experts, including university professors, gallery owners, and local artists. A board member from the Kimball Art Center and a member of the community are also included. Artists juried into the festival will be notified by April 1, 2008.

All art must be original, handcrafted work in a variety of media including; ceramics, digital imaging, drawing, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media, metalwork, paintings, traditional photography, printmaking, sculpture, wood.

This year’s Kimball Arts Festival will be held Saturday, August 2 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, August 3, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival showcases 225 artists, 30 live bands, three beer and wine gardens, a Kimball Kids’ Corner and a luxury car giveaway at the end of the festival. Approximately 40,000 people attend this festival each year.
