The Republican parade of Election ’08, as seen in Park City

In the 1 1/2 years before Election Day 2008, top political names from the Republican Party held fundraisers in the Park City area to bring in money for presidential campaigns.

  • President Bush visited Park City in May 2008 to hold a fundraiser for John McCain, the Republican candidate for the White House that year. Crowds lined many of the streets during the presidential motorcade from the Park City School District campus to upper Deer Valley.
  • Rudy Giuliani, the former Republican mayor of New York City, visited Park City in August 2007. The fundraiser was held in a private residence in Park Meadows. Some of the people who attended said afterward they were impressed with his honesty and his performance leading New York City after the Sept. 11 attacks.
  • Mitt Romney is believed to have raised money in Park City during his unsuccessful bid for the 2008 Republican nomination, including a fundraiser that was scheduled in June 2007. Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, was a Park City homeowner for years and spent significant time in the city while helming the 2002 Winter Olympics.
