Tom Bakaly, Park City manager, departing after nine-plus years at helm
Park City Manager Tom Bakaly will leave City Hall after nine-plus years as the top staffer in the municipal government, multiple people with knowledge of his decision said Thursday afternoon.
An official announcement may be made as early as late Thursday. He has accepted the city manager post in Hermosa Beach, Calif. Bakaly was not immediately available for comment.
Bakaly has been the city manager since early 2003, taking the top municipal post less than a year after the 2002 Winter Olympics.
He navigated City Hall through the post-Olympic boom years and then the recession. Bakaly, who has a background in government finance, rose through the ranks at the Marsac Building. He held three positions within the municipal government before his appointment as city manager.
The interim city manager in Hermosa Beach said an employment contract is on the City Council agenda there on Tuesday. John Jalili said Hermosa Beach hopes Bakaly will start in early September.
