Truck crashes on Mine Road

by Jay Hamburger OF THE RECORD STAFF

A truck driver heading up the steep Mine Road south of Old Town drove off the road on Friday morning, leaving the driver with minor injuries.

Doug Devenish, a Utah Highway Patrol sergeant who responded, says the driver drifted toward the shoulder on the right side of the road and overcorrected, swerving across the median and crashing.

The accident occurred at about 9 a.m. Devenish says the driver was "inattentive," but the authorities were unlikely to write the person a ticket. The truck’s payload was empty.

There has been a series of truck accidents involving drivers heading down the Mine Road, but accidents by vehicles climbing the state highway are rare. The downhill accidents are frequently blamed on overworked brakes on the road.
