Upward of 50 hospitality-gifting suites expected for Sundance

City Hall on Monday afternoon was processing between 40 and 50 permit applications submitted by people or firms with plans to convert existing buildings into temporary corporate setups for the Sundance Film Festival.

Kayla Sintz, a contract City Hall employee who is coordinating the municipal government’s permitting, said nearly all of the applications involved buildings on or close to Main Street. She described all of them as being hospitality and gifting suites.

Sintz said the number is approximately the same as in the previous two years. The total, though, is down from the pre-recession years, she said.

The corporate interests, some with ties to Sundance and others seeking the spotlight the festival brings to Park City, have been readying their spaces for Thursday’s festival opening. Main Street on Monday was especially busy with materials being delivered and crews working inside the spaces.

The hubbub on Main Street usually peaks during the opening weekend, when the star power normally is at its greatest. Some of the temporary spaces are dismantled soon after the opening weekend.
