USSA Youth Ski League Championships head to Park City
The Summit Ski Team will host the annual USSA Intermountain Division Youth Ski League Championships, March 9-11 at Canyons Resort and the Utah Olympic Park. This marks the first time the YSL Championships have been held in Park City. Event organizers expect between 350 and 400 racers ages 6 to 12 years old. The competitors will come from ski racing clubs from around the Intermountain West including Summit Ski Team, Park City Ski Team, Park City Farm Team, Rowmark Ski Team, Snowbird Ski Team, Ogden Valley Ski Team, Brighton Ski Team, Alta Ski Team, Sundance Ski Team, and Brian Head Ski Team.
Racers are scheduled to compete in a KOMBI race on Friday, March 9. The Kombi race starts as a slalom event, and progresses into GS race with a jump in between. Saturday is scheduled to feature a GS race, while Sunday will end with a slalom race.
In addition to the races, the event will include an Opening Ceremony and a night team race on Friday evening at the UOP and an athlete/team parade Saturday at Canyons following the GS Race.
The Opening Ceremony will include team recognition and the first ever YSL team race to be held under the lights at the Utah Olympic Park Friday evening starting at 6 p.m. Each team with racers in the YSL Championships is invited to form a single team to race in the Team race that includes one coach, two boys and two girls, with at least one of the young racers being a J6-level racer. Team times will be given by including the four best times out of five in the overall time. The team with the best time will win the team race.
This event has been made possible through a collaboration of many partners including the Summit Ski Team, Canyons Resort, Utah Olympic Park, USSA, and World Cup Supply. The Summit Ski Team is a family-based ski club dedicated to providing a safe, fun and motivating environment for Park City area youth learning to ski and race. Participants develop a foundation for lifelong skiing enjoyment through all-mountain skiing, professional coaching, race training, competition, and team camaraderie.
