Vail Resorts appoints industry veteran to lead PCMR, Canyons

Vail Resorts on Thursday said it has appointed a ski-industry executive working in California as the chief operating officer of Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Resort.

Bill Rock will assume the post on Nov. 1. He is the chief operating officer of Northstar California Resort, another Vail Resorts property.

Vail Resorts said in a prepared statement Rock’s experience in the ski industry includes time as the president and chief operating officer of Snowshoe Mountain Resort, which is in West Virginia, and as the chief operating officer at Durango Mountain Resort in Colorado.

In the prepared statement, Rob Katz, the Vail Resorts chairman and chief executive officer, said Rock "was instrumental in our integration of Northstar in 2010, including overseeing a $30 million capital program and building cultural and community engagement and alignment."

The statement indicates Blaise Carrig, who is the president of the mountain division of Vail Resorts, will leave his position as the interim head of PCMR. Rock will report to Carrig, the statement says.

Vail Resorts acquired PCMR in September. It operates Canyons Resort as part of a long-term deal with the Talisker corporate family.
