West Valley man killed in Parley’s Canyon wreck

West Valley resident, Winston Craig, 29, died as a result of injuries sustained in a crash on Interstate 80 in Parley’s Canyon Sunday, April 28 at 11:30 a.m.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Corp. Todd Johnson, Craig was driving a Ford F-250 pulling a U-Haul trailer westbound near mile post 135 when he collided into the rear of a semitrailer.

One eyewitness told the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), Craig passed him in the right lane, but did not notice the semi-truck until the very last moment, at which point he attempted to swerve into the right shoulder just before his truck impacted the semi-truck.

A second witness told UHP that Craig changed from the center lane into the right lane about a quarter mile before the collision with the semitrailer. According to the report, the second driver also saw Craig swerve to the right shoulder just before impact.

The semi-truck, owned by Steven’s Transport, based in Texas, was hauling 42,000 pounds of dry freight and was reportedly traveling about 22 mph. Both the driver and passenger of the semitrailer were uninjured.

Craig, who was the only occupant of the F-250, died on scene.
