Wildfire burns nine acres at Promontory
September 10, 2009
A wildfire at Promontory filled the skies above the Snyderville Basin with smoke Thursday afternoon. By about 5 p.m. firefighters had contained the blaze, which consumed about nine acres of land near Three Mile Canyon.
A spark from a piece of heavy equipment being operated in the area likely ignited the fire, Summit County Fire Warden Bryce Boyer said. Firefighters from across the West Side of Summit County responded in several trucks, Boyer explained in a telephone interview.
No structures were threatened and nobody was injured by the fire, he said. The fire burned in tall grasses and brush, Boyer said.
"We’re looking at probably six to 10 mph winds on it," he said. "It’s very dry in the county right now."
