For the Record: What surprised you about the election results?
Each week, The Park Record asks For the Record, a weekly question with answers given by residents and visitors. This week, after the elections results are almost settled, we wanted to check the pulse of local residents about the results. What surprised you about the elections results? Comment with your answer below, or consider sending a letter to the editor.
Matt Buchalew, Promontory
“Proposition 2 passing surprised me. I’ve lived here for ten years, and I just thought in a place that has heavily religion intermingled in politics, I didn’t think it would pass.”
Todd Bradley, Park City
“I thought Beto (O’Rourke) was going to pull it out in Texas (U.S. Senate race), and I thought (Andrew) Gilliam was going to pull it out in Florida (gubernatorial). I haven’t seen numbers on who came out, breaking down demographics. It will be interesting to see how that breaks out.”
Les Blades, Heber City
“I expected the Democrats to take the (U.S. House of Representatives) again, and the Republicans to keep the (U.S. Senate). I think it will end up being a contentious Congress. I don’t think they will get anything done.”
Jonnie Hartman, Silver Creek
“What happened was probably what was going to happen, but I was surprised at the voter turnout and how the percentages were so much higher this year because they made same-day voter registration, and the mail-in so easy for everyone. It felt good to vote.”
