Important to pass recreation bond

My name is Jordan Williams. I am 14 years old, and I am an athlete. I love most sports, and I play many recreationally. Since I was 4, I have figure skated, ski raced, snowboarded, and now play hockey.

I am writing this letter to share with you some information on why it is important  to our community, and especially to those who enjoy skating in any form, to consider passing the $30 million bond which will be presented to voters this fall.

While our community may be considered small by most, studies show our community has a large percentage of its population involved in many outdoor sports, especially ice hockey, figure skating, and speed skating.

Our community currently has only one ice rink, and the demand is high. Hockey teams are in competition with other hockey teams and also with other ice rink sports to secure utilization of the facility.

It would be wonderful if our community could help to provide another sheet of ice, even if it is outdoor, to help our community, build our ice rink sports. Doing so gets kids involved, gets them involved with other kids, gets them involved with the community, and keeps kids engaged in activity rather than begging home idle.

Allowing our community more access to another sheet of ice will help our sports teams have more resources, which is a  necessary part of developing better athletes. Our community is fortunate to have so many involved parents, professionals and coaches who are committed to developing Park City youth into a destination hockey town, but we are desperate for the facilities.

The community’s favorable vote on this bond is not a “vote to spend more money,” but an investment in our youth, and in our community, which will produce rewards long into our future.
