Finest example of how a community forms a team

What a grand stem cell donor registration drive we had on Sunday at the Park City Medical Center! We added over 185 young people to the donor registry! If this drive doesn’t produce a match for Andy or Billie Harsch, it will at some time, somewhere, benefit some other person with blood cancer.

Our grateful thanks to each and every one who helped with this drive for their time and talents in making it such a success! Our special thank to Penny Pack, who lit the fire; wonderful Nick Miller who caught the flame for his Eagle Scout project; Larry Warren at KPCW for all of the fabulous publicity and contacts; Nan Chalat-Noaker at The Park Record for the stories; the Park City Medical Center for the use of their great facilities; Susan Miles for her publicity acumen; The Park City Community Church and other area churches for their support; Mary Demkowicz and Sally Rajamaki for their untiring efforts to talk to all of Park City; and to all the swabbers, cookie givers, and other helpers at the drive. It was the finest example of how a community forms a team.

We’re so fortunate to have our son, Andy, be the recipient of all the dedicated time and effort put into this drive to save his life and to help others and fortunate to have friends like all of you! Thank you! We are especially grateful the Be The Match registry exists for patients like Andy. It really does take a village!

Anyone between the ages of 18-44 can go to http://www.bethematch.org , and click on "sign the registry." They will be sent a swabbbing kit and instructions directly. Merely swab your cheek and return the kit to Be The Match and it will be processed and become part of a national database for stem cell donor matches. It only takes a minute and can save a life.

Our great thanks and humble gratitude to you all!
