Last Thursday, we announced Expanded Excellence, a collection of projects that build upon our founders’ vision of exceptional guest service, great grooming, innovative dining offerings, and a ski-only experience. These principles have guided us since our inception in 1981 and will continue to steer us into the future. 

Expanded Excellence includes a major terrain expansion that will more than double the skiable terrain, a new portal and base village on the east side of the mountain with easy access to Deer Valley from U.S. Route 40, the Snow Park Base transformation — the final piece of the Sterns’ original vision, and the revitalization of our existing facilities with the goal of modernizing them while preserving the unique character of our spaces. 

When fully built out, Deer Valley will offer 5,726 acres of skiable terrain across 10 mountain peaks accessed through an efficient network of 37 chairlifts, including a 10-person gondola and 238 ski runs, making the resort one of the largest in North America. The new terrain is located on the east side of Deer Valley’s Bald Mountain and was formerly named the Mayflower Mountain Resort. However, this name will no longer be used.

Going forward, this skiable area will be known simply as a part of Deer Valley Resort, similar to the introduction of new terrain associated with the new Empire and Lady Morgan lifts. 

While we’re expanding our skiable terrain, this expansion doesn’t equal a doubling of our skier visits. Our dedication to maintaining the quality of our guests’ experience remains steadfast, and we’ll continue to adhere to our longstanding policy of limiting daily skier capacity.

This new terrain will be anchored by a new portal and village area, which will include skier services, luxury lodging, world-class dining, and retail amenities. It will feature 1,200 day-skier parking spaces and direct access from Salt Lake City via Interstate 80 and U.S. Route 40, delivering the fastest and easiest access from a major metropolitan and international airport in the world.

Our traffic engineers project that approximately half of Deer Valley’s visitors will choose to access the resort via the new portal based on the ease of access from U.S. Route 40, which will reduce traffic impacts from Deer Valley in Park City. 

Deer Valley has played an integral role in the Park City community and greater Wasatch Back for decades, and the positive effects of these upcoming changes will have a far-reaching impact. We remain committed to our staff, guests and community throughout the coming years of change.
