Canyons Golf to host The First Tee of Utah
Partnership will help Youth Develop Golf and Life Skills
Vail Resorts and Park City Mountain are pleased to announce the launch of The First Tee of Utah at Canyons Golf, an organization that aims to shape the lives of young people by introducing them to the game of golf and coaching them through various life lessons and character values. This year’s program will tee off at Canyons Golf on Monday, May 8, and registration was open to all youth ages 7-18, regardless of background or previous experience.
“We are thrilled to host The First Tee of Utah here at Canyons Golf,” said Justin Johnson, director of golf. “I’ve seen the positive impact this program makes firsthand and I couldn’t be more excited to bring local golf professionals together to make that same impact on youth here in Park City.”
Canyons Golf and The First Tee of Utah will bring together golf professionals from Canyons Golf, as well as numerous courses in the area, to facilitate the instruction, where kids will have the opportunity to learn everything from driving to putting, chipping and golf course etiquette. Then, the instructors and volunteers will take the lessons inside and facilitate classroom learning on topics such as integrity, sportsmanship and respect.
The First Tee was founded in 1997 and has grown to reach more than four million people annually. The organization uses golf as the foundation for a curriculum that teaches a range of valuable life and character lessons through their nine core values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment. The program helps kids build character and confidence, developing the core values and life skills that stay with them on and off the golf course.
The First Tee of Utah at Canyons Golf will consist of 10, hour and a half long sessions, and the fee for registration is $99; however, no child will be turned away and scholarships are available as needed. Although the spring program has reached capacity, parents are encouraged to keep an eye out for details on upcoming programs, including this fall.
