Gus Kenworthy wins Dew Tour
BRECKENRIDGE – Olympic silver medalist Gus Kenworthy (Telluride, Colorado) took home his first slopestyle Dew Tour title and fellow Olympic medalist Nick Goepper (Lawrenceburg, Indiana) finished third on the final day of the 10th annual Dew Tour in Breckenridge, Colorado.
Kenworthy posted the two highest scores of the day and landed two solid runs in a course challenged by weather with heavy snow falling and creating a soft, slow course and near whiteout conditions at times.
Kenworthy seemed unphased by the fresh snow that accumulated during the event, landing an impressive winning run with a left double cork 1080 tailgrab and a standout switch left 270 to lipslide on the wallride, the only competitor to utilize that feature.
"I’ve had [Dew Tour] podiums in pipe and one in big air but this is my first time getting on the podium in slope," Kenworthy said. "That’s my main discipline so I’m really excited. It was tough, tough weather today but everybody put it together the best they could and I was really happy to land my runs."
Sweden’s Oystein Bratten snagged second place just ahead of Nick Goepper who linked left and right double cork 1080s on the last two jumps. Olympic champion Joss Christensen (Park City) struggled to find speed and ended up sixth.
NBC will carry highlights of the Dew Tour on Dec. 28 from 4-5 p.m. EST.
The Youth Sports Alliance will host a team scramble golf tournament on June 3 at Victory Ranch in hopes of raising funds for its scholarships and youth programs.
