May 5, 2015
The Park City High School varsity girls’ lacrosse team finished its regular season with a 13-6 victory at Jordan on Friday afternoon.
The first half was tight as Jordan came ready to upset the undefeated Miners. Park City found the net for five goals, but the Beetdiggers answered back with four of their own.
The Miners settled down in the second half and played their game, focusing on passing and defensive stops, and winning the majority of the draws. As a result, they outscored Jordan in the second half 8-2.
Park City’s scoring attack was led by Hannah Hyatt with four goals. Ellie Meyer and Marina Mayo both put in two, while Maime Graham, Maike Wells, Jeni Gordon, Gabby Nixon and Ellie Faulk each scored one. Faulk was also impressive at the draw, winning 11 of 16.
The game featured what the girls have been focusing on all year — strong team play on both sides of the ball. With the win, the Miners finished the regular season undefeated at 12-0. In those 12 games, the high-powered offense scored an impressive 156 goals. The defense was equally impressive, allowing opponents only 39 goals.
Friday’s win guarantees the Miners the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The playoff march begins Friday evening at Dozier Field. Play begins at 7 p.m. The team is asking fans to come on out and support them and wear red. Don’t miss this opportunity to cheer the girls on to what they hope is another Utah state championship.
