PCMR opens for summer May 22
May 19, 2015
Though it seems the winter season just ended last weekend, Park City Mountain Resort is preparing to open for the summer season on Friday, May 22.
Despite the rain that has soaked Park City for most of the past two weeks, summer operations are still on track at PCMR, according to Margo Christiansen, PCMR’s senior manager of communications.
"There’s been no delay in the scheduled opening date due to rain," she said. "We often have wet weather in the spring and our team is used to working with the weather."
The short turnaround time between the winter and summer seasons also hasn’t delayed anything for the resort.
"We’re right on track for our summer operations opening," Christiansen said. "Our summer activities team is used to this short window."
Christiansen said there will be plenty of activities open to guests this weekend, including lift-served mountain biking.

"We will open with PayDay lift, serving foot passengers for hiking and also bike haul for access to trails," she said. "All of our summer activities will be operational on opening day (pending weather conditions), including the Alpine Slides, Alpine Coaster, Flying Eagle Zip Line, Zip Rider and Adventure Zone for the kids."
PayDay lift will operate from 1-6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. In early June, the resort will shift to its regular-season hours.
The $50 million capital improvement project taking place this summer that will, among other things, link PCMR and Canyons Resort will cause some trails to be intermittently closed throughout the summer, Christiansen said.
"We are working in partnership with Mountain Trails Foundation and Basin Recreation to keep trail users informed," she said. "Stay tuned to mountaintrails.org and basinrecreation.org for the most up-to-date information regarding trail interruptions."
The construction projects won’t interrupt PCMR’s summer festivities, though. The biggest event of the summer is the Fourth of July celebration.
"The Fourth of July is a weekend celebration not to be missed," Christiansen said. "This year, Park City and Canyons will join together to present a Fourth of July weekend of activities. Friday, July 3, kicks off the festivities at Canyons with activities throughout the day and the popular musical act, The Soulistics, capping off the evening. On Saturday, July 4, the fun shifts to Park City. Start the day with the parade down Main Street, then settle in to Park City to catch bands, great food and the fireworks display at dusk."
Christiansen said it’s shaping up to be a fun summer in Park City for both locals and visitors.
"Park City is an amazing place in both the winter and summer," she said. "The action doesn’t stop when the snow melts. Hiking and mountain biking on the beautiful trails, along with fun activities like the Alpine Coaster, Zip Lines and the Adventure Zone are activities for the whole family to enjoy."
