Prep spotlight: Park City football, North Summit volleyball keep on rolling
Park City traveled to Millville to play Region 12’s No. 4 ranked Ridgeline on Wednesday, defeating the Riverhawks 23-21. Park City junior running back Dylan Bauer scored all three of the Miners’ touchdowns, with a six-yard run in the first quarter, a nine-yard run in the third quarter, and a four-yard run in the fourth quarter. Park City senior kicker John Flitton scored a 29-yard field goal in the second quarter.
The Miners (4-1 in Region 11, 7-3 overall) are set to play Salem Hills (3-2 in Region 10, 5-4 overall) in their first playoff game at Dozier Field 4 p.m. Friday.
The Park City High School girls cross-country team took 10th of 16 teams, with freshman Elena Grissom leading the Miners in 26th place with a time of 19:36. She was followed by sophomore Samantha Herman in 38th with a time of 20:01.9, then junior Mackenna Doilney in 55th (20:25.9); junior Sydney LaPine in 68th (20:54.9), sophomore Josie Marshall in 93rd (21:38.9) and sophomore Ellie Anderson in 110th (22:30.3).
The Park City boys team finished 13th. It was led by junior Reese McGrath (16:50), who finished 51st, with senior Kaleb Barnhart close behind in 51st (16:51.3). They were followed by senior Scott McMullin in 73rd (17:12.8), freshman Wes Campbell in 83rd (17:21), sophomore Bennett Diamond in 85th (17:22.3), junior Sheldon Vanover in 104th (17:49.8), and sophomore Shane Hilton in 117th (18:32.3).
The North Summit Braves took on the Randolph Rebels at home on Thursday, defeating the 1A Rebels in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14. The nonconference victory was the Braves’ 19th consecutive win since their Sept. 4 loss to Ridgeline.
North Summit will play in a state playoff game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Utah Valley University’s UCCU Center on court two. The Braves’ opponent has yet to be determined.
The Park City Ice Miners are 3-0 in Division 1 after beating Oquirrh 8-1 on Oct. 15 in Accord and Wasatch Back 10-2 on Oct. 10 at home.
Senior Tristen Lippert scored three goals and one assist against Wasatch Back while sophomore Wes Griffin scored one goal and three assists and junior Ryan Jeffrey scored two goals with one assist.
Lippert led the team in goals against Oquirrh as well, scoring two while Nick Lippman scored one goal and had two assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Cooper Strople has only given up 5 goals in 3 games.
The Ice Miners will play UCI North (1-1-0) on Oct. 24 at Park City Ice Arena. The game starts at 6:30 p.m.
