Zumba Glow Party
For all the Zumba fanatics, this is one of the best events out there. Zumba fitness under blacklight will be offered by Basin Recreation’s fitness instructors at The Fieldhouse on Friday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. The cost is $10 per person. Wear white or neon so that you glow.
PC Recreation’s youth karate program teaches children ages 4 and up life lessons that build self-esteem, confidence, respect and fitness. Intro to Ballroom Dance Class
Basin Recreation has partnered with Ballroom Utah Dance Studio to offer a six-week Intro to Ballroom Dance Class. Ballroom Utah’s professional instructors will introduce a different style of dance each week while progressing through the steps. Styles include the Waltz, Tango, Cha-Cha, Swing, Fox Trot and Salsa. The instruction will run Fridays, from Nov. 6 to Dec. 18 from 4-5 p.m. at The Fieldhouse and Basin Rec will allow the class an additional hour of play/practice time once the instructor is finished. You do not need a partner to participate! Mother/son and father/daughter couples are more than welcome. Costs are $75 for individuals or $120 per couple. Apex Volleyball Tryouts
Apex Volleyball tryouts will be in mid-November. Pre-club training will be in September and October. Both teams had great seasons in 2015. The 12-and-under team was the second-youngest team and normally finished second-best out of 9-12 teams. The 12U team also played up and beat a 14U team. The 15U team won 19 matches in a row to win four straight tournament championships, including playing up and winning a 16U tournament. Enjoyment rating from everyone was very high. Apex is also looking to add a couple new coaches for this year. Volleyball is one of the fastest-growing sports, and it is also the third-most popular high school sport for girls. Thriller Dance Workshop
If you love "Thriller" and love to dance, the PC MARC’s Thriller Dance Workshop is for you. Come exercise, laugh and learn the famous moves with your friends and family. Cardio Tennis at the PC MARC
Cardio Tennis combines the best features of tennis with cardiovascular exercise to deliver a full-body aerobic workout. Taught by a tennis professional, Cardio Tennis is held on Mondays, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the PC MARC. Players of all levels are welcome to enjoy this dynamic workout that uses the agility ladder, cardio stations, cardio balls and music. The class fee is $26. AARP Smart Driver Course at Basin Recreation
Basin Recreation will be offering another AARP Smart Driver Course on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Community Room at 5715 Trailside Drive. The course will be led by AARP Certified Instructor Eric Wollesen and will teach defensive driving techniques, safety strategies and new traffic laws. Each participant is eligible for a three-year discount on auto insurance upon completing the course. There are no tests to pass; simply show up and learn. Lunch will be provided by Basin Recreation. Costs are $15/AARP Member and $20/Non-Member to be paid on the day of the course. Pickleball at the PC MARC
PC Tennis invites those interested in racket sports to discover pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. Head to the PC MARC for a variety of pickleball programming, including drop-in/social play, tournaments, clinics and drills. The PC MARC is offering a customized Dryland Training program for individuals seeking personal training in a high-energy group setting. The class will be held Sept. 14 to Oct. 28 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Led by two-time Olympian and fitness coach Jillian Vogtli, the program is designed to increase muscular endurance just in time for ski season. Little Dribblers Basketball
Basin Recreation’s Little Dribblers Basketball program starts the week of Oct. 12. Registration is now open and costs $65 per participant. Park City Soccer Club 2015 Fall Academy
The Park City Soccer Club Session One fall academy registration is open to players 7-10 years old. The academy is designed to complement the fall recreation soccer program, providing a curriculum that is based on fun, dynamic and age-appropriate training sessions to enhance players’ skills. Youth Dirt Jump Camp
PC Recreation’s dirt jump instructors will help children excel in the sport of progressive mountain biking with clinics for all levels of riders held at the Park City Dirt Jump Park. Park City Speed Skating Club
Come join the Park City Speed Skating Club for the new season. PCSSC is a skill-building, fitness-oriented club with an emphasis on fun. Basic skating skills are necessary and all ages are welcome. Practices will take place on Monday evenings from 6:15 to 8 p.m. and are coached by four-time Olympian Catherine Raney-Norman. The first time is free so come take a lap with PCSSC. Rail Trail Closure
The Rail Trail is closed under the bridge around mile post 153 between Promontory and Wanship. Due to construction in the Silver Creek area, it will remain closed throughout the summer and into the fall. Recreational users can still use most of the trail from Promontory or Wanship toward the bridge, but won’t be able to cross all the way through. The Utah Department of Transportation anticipates completing construction by mid-October, but that depends on weather conditions.
The PC MARC’s lap pool is open for the season and Master Swim is offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Come by for a lunch-hour swim. For more info, visit parkcityrecreation.org or call 615-5400.
