Three Utahns to represent USA Luge

Submitted by USA Luge,

USA Luge has announced the nomination of four members from its junior ranks to the United States Olympic Committee for inclusion in the upcoming 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Lillehammer, Norway.

Justin Taylor of Newark, Delaware, and Ashley Farquharson of Park City are the singles nominees, while Duncan Biles of Herriman, Utah, and Alanson Owen of Park City are the doubles selections.

The four young athletes raced onto the team with their strong results during the fall Junior World Cup series. They would compete in their respective discipline races and would also combine as the American entry in the team relay.

All young lugers who were born between Jan. 1, 1998, and Dec. 31, 2001, may take part. The FIL’s minimum requirements must also be met, meaning that athletes must have participated in a minimum of three Youth A or Junior World Cups in the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 seasons, and must have scored at least 10 Junior World Cup points.

The site of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games will host the second winter YOG, following Innsbruck in 2012. Competitions take place Feb. 12-21, with luge action set for Feb. 14-16.

The American squad won the team relay gold medal four years ago with a unit that included current World Cup winners and Sochi Olympians Tucker West and Summer Britcher.
