Tour de Sunrise Rotary set for Aug. 8
On Saturday, Aug. 8, Park City Sunrise Rotary will kick off its first-ever Tour de Sunrise Rotary, Family Fun Ride and Walk, in conjunction with the Summit County Fair. Participants will lead the Summit County Fair Parade down Coalville’s Main Street at 10 a.m., then take a turn onto the Historic Rail Trail and ride (or walk) four miles out to Echo Reservoir and back. This is a family-friendly ride/walk, easy, flat and very scenic as it winds along the shores of Echo Reservoir.
Park City Sunrise Rotary is working with Travis English from the Summit County Fair to create this event that the Club hopes will become a successful annual event.
"We created this event for two primary reasons," said Sunrise Rotary member Connie Nelson. "First, to become a partner with the Summit County Fair and help increase awareness and attendance at the County Fair, and second, to establish a new fundraising mechanism for Park City Sunrise Rotary."
All proceeds from the event will used by Park City Sunrise Rotary Club as part of its grants program, which benefits many non-profit organizations throughout Summit County.
Participants can register for the ride at SummitCountyFair.org or by calling 435-336-3249. Entry fees are $10 for individuals and $25 for families or groups. There will be four rest stations along the course of the ride, with water, snacks and fun prizes. There is even an opportunity to win a BMC Teamlite TE03 29 Mountain Bike ($1,600 value), generously donated by Bikes For Kids. Lunch will be provided for all participants at the Fair Grounds after the event. All participants, friends and family are encouraged to stay and enjoy the Summit County Fair. The Aug. 8 events will include the Carnival, Ice Cream Social, Live Music, Petting Zoo, Jr. Livestock Sale and the Beer, Wine & Whiskey Garden, as well as the PRCA Rodeo on Saturday evening at 8 p.m. (The Rodeo is a ticketed event; $11.50 adults, $5.50 kids 4-14.) The evening will be capped off by fireworks following the rodeo. (Admission to the fair is free; full schedule available at SummitCountyFair.org)
As an added bonus, Tour de Sunrise participants will have the opportunity watch as the Tour of Utah riders pass through Coalville during Stage 6 of the popular race. The Queen Stage, as it is known, mostly resembles the version from the 2014 Tour. Stage 6 takes the Tour of Utah riders from Salt Lake to Snowbird, passing through Coalville at the same time as our Tour de Sunrise is headed out toward Echo.
Park City Sunrise Rotary would like to thank generous sponsors Burger King, Cadinha & Co. Registered Investment Advisers and Switchback Sports, as well as in-kind sponsors Bikes for Kids, Grub Steak Restaurant, Jeremy Ranch Golf & Country Club, Wasatch Bagel & Café and Whitney Advertising.
The Park City High School girls golf team took second in the Class 4A state championship tournament on Thursday. It was the team’s fifth consecutive time as runner-up.
