U.S. Ski Jumping Team named

Submitted by Women's Ski Jumping USA,

Nine top U.S. women ski jumpers have been named to the 2014-15 U.S. Visa Women’s Ski Jumping Team ahead of an exciting World Championships, World Cup and Continental Cup schedule.

Veteran ski jumpers Sarah Hendrickson, Jessica Jerome and Lindsey Van — the first women ski jumpers to compete in Olympic ski jumping events — will once again provide world-class leadership to their teammates as they hone their skills in anticipation of the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang, Korea. The team also includes two graduates of the inaugural Fly Girls Development Camp that was held in July 2014.

The following athletes are the members of the 2014-2015 U.S. Visa Women’s Ski Jumping Team:

  • Sarah Hendrickson of Park City is the current World Champion and was the first woman to ski jump in the Olympics.
  • Jessica Jerome, also of Park City, is a 10-time National Champion and was a top-10 finisher at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
  • Lindsey Van, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and a true legend in ski jumping, became the first World Champion in women’s ski jumping through her first-place finish at the inaugural Women’s Championships in 2009.
  • Nita Englund, of Iron Mountain, Michigan, has had recent podium finishes at Continental Cup and FIS Cup competitions in Falun, Sweden, and Trondheim, Norway.
  • Tara Geraghty-Moats of West Fairlee, Vermont, recently placed third at the National Championships in Lake Placid, securing her place on the National Team.
  • Abby Hughes, of Park City, has had top-10 finishes at Continental Cup events and took ninth place at the Olympic test event in Sochi, Russia.
  • Nina Lussi of Lake Placid, New York, had several top-10 and podium finishes on the Continental Cup and FIS Cup circuits in recent years.
  • Cara Larson of Barrington, Illinois, who is a graduate of the Fly Girls development program, recently took first place at the Junior National Championships and seventh place at the National Championships in Lake Placid.
  • Logan Sankey of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, also a participant in the inaugural Fly Girls development program, recently took second place at the Junior National Championships and sixth place at the National Championships in Lake Placid.

"As the inaugural Women’s Winter Olympic event in Sochi, Russia, is now behind us, we are embarking upon a new chapter for the U.S. Visa Women’s Ski Jumping Team," head coach Alan Alborn said. "I am very proud of what we have accomplished and am excited about our addition of the Fly Girls program, which is the pipeline between our local clubs across the U.S. and our National Team. As this year marks another World Championship season, we are ready for, and looking forward to, this competition series. With the addition of travel coach Vasja Bajc and physical therapist Neza Mravije, we expect strong results from the 2014-15 National Team."
